New Zealand Team Arrives in India for One-Off Test Against Afghanistan

The New Zealand cricket team, captained by Tim Southee, has reached India for their upcoming one-off Test match against Afghanistan. The squad landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi early on Thursday morning and proceeded directly to Greater Noida, where the match will take place. This Test, which is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2024, will be held at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

Afghanistan, who have hosted previous matches in India with the support of the BCCI, will be playing their fourth Test on Indian soil. Their Test debut took place against India in Bengaluru back in 2018, followed by matches against Ireland and West Indies.

After this game, New Zealand will travel to Sri Lanka for two World Test Championship (WTC) matches, starting on September 18 and September 26. This match against Afghanistan is expected to help the Kiwis gear up for their crucial WTC encounters.

Jacob Oram Named New Zealand’s Bowling Coach

In another major development, Jacob Oram has been appointed as the bowling coach for New Zealand, filling the position left vacant by Shane Jurgensen. Oram, a former all-rounder, has been involved in coaching since 2014, working with New Zealand A and the national women’s team. His experience also includes stints in T20 leagues like the Abu Dhabi T10 and SA20, where he served as a bowling coach.
