Nicholas Pooran Takes Up Vice-Captain Role for Lucknow Super Giants

The IPL is set to commence soon. The inaugural match is set to be staged on March 22. All the players and teams are preparing for the last time. Before stepping into the tournament, Lucknow Super Giants made a significant change. Nicholas Pooran replaces Krunal Pandya as the vice-captain of the team.

Nicholas Pooran as the Vice-Captain:

On Thursday, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) revealed that West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran is their new vice-captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Pooran takes over the vice-captaincy from all-rounder Krunal Pandya, as announced by captain KL Rahul during an event on Wednesday.

The choice means that Nicholas Pooran will take over as the vice-captain, replacing Krunal Pandya in the team. In the previous IPL season, when KL Rahul got injured midway, Krunal led the side. However, for IPL 2024, if a similar situation arises, Lucknow Super Giants will look to Pooran, given his past leadership roles in international and franchise cricket.

Lucknow Super Giants made the official announcement on social media, sharing a picture of KL Rahul (Captain) and Nicholas Pooran (Vice-Captain) with the caption, “This season already feels special.

Pooran’s Career in LSG and IPL 2024:

Last season, Pooran played instead of South Africa’s Quinton de Kock in 15 matches for LSG in IPL 2024. He scored 358 runs with two fifties at a notable strike rate of 172.94. Having led different teams, including the national side, this marks Pooran’s first time taking on a leadership role with an IPL team.

With Rahul expected to be available for the entire season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are optimistic about their chances in the upcoming T20 tournament starting on March 22. The team aims to clinch the trophy this edition, barring any unforeseen events. LSG kicks off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur. The anticipation is high as they set their sights on a successful start to the season.
