No International Cricket Comeback for AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers is not making a comeback to international cricket anytime soon. Cricket South Africa declared the squads for upcoming tours and ended all the speculations related to ABD’s retirement.

AB de Villiers had given multiple hints about his possible international cricket comeback. But as Cricket South Africa announced the squads for upcoming tours in West Indies and Ireland, de the speculation on the same ended at once. CSA revealed that ABD decided “once and for all” that his retirement would remain final after discussions with the board.

South Africa will be playing two Tests against West Indies from June 10 in St Lucia followed by five T20Is in Grenada. Then they will fly to Ireland as the tour will start from July 11 and two sides will be playing three ODIs and as many as T20Is.

“This is a massive outing for the Proteas. We have a fully fit team with an exciting balance of youth and experience. The Selection Panel is confident that it has put together an exciting and excited, young group of cricketers that will be well led by Dean (Elgar) and Temba (Bavuma),” CSA Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang, said.

Speaking about the tours, he said, “The Caribbean is well-known for its low and slow wickets and we have ensured that we have chosen the personnel needed for every eventuality on this very important excursion. While there aren’t any (ICC World Test Championship) points to play for, it is still of vital importance for South Africa to produce winning results through a steadily growing and high-performing cricket pipeline.”
