Orange Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After MI vs CSK Match 12

Today’s doubleheader saw Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings coming out on top. As the day was pretty eventful in itself, the same was reflected in the Orange Cap list. The list has seen a few changes, with a few new names in the top 10.

A day of moving around

The Orange Cap changed heads quite frequently today. Initially, Ruturaj Gaikwad held the Orange Cap, but he was soon overtaken by Jos Buttler as he scored 79 runs in 51 balls against the  Delhi Capitals today. However, Buttler’s hold on the top spot was short-lived as David Warner took over from him in the next innings as he scored a slow 65 from 55 balls. Just when it seemed like Warner would finish the day as the top scorer, Ruturaj Gaikwad fought back and reclaimed the Orange Cap.

Gaiwad played an anchor role today while Ajinkya Rahane did most of the hitting. Gaikwad ended up with 40 runs from 36 balls, but that was enough for him to get back on the top. David Warner now sits at the second spot with 158 runs while Jos Buttler is at the third spot with 152 runs in the tournament. Kyle Mayers, who failed against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game has slipped down to the fourth spot with 139 runs to his name.

Rajasthan’s domination in holdings

Rajasthan currently hold the first position in the points table and this has been explained by the number of batters they have in the top 10 of the Purple Cap list. Out of 10 players, 4 names in the Purple Cap race are from Rajasthan Royals. Apart from Jos Buttler, who holds the third position in the list, Yashasvi Jaiswal (6th Place), Shimron Hetmyer (9th Place), and captain Sanju Samson (10th Place) are also there in the Purple Cap race. Despite scoring a duck in today’s game, Samson has managed to be there in the top 10. Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, was in his prime as he bolstered the Delhi bowlers for a quickfire 60 off 31 balls to claim the Player of the Match award.

Mumbai Indians’ last match hero Tilak Verma was unlucky tonight as he could only manage 22 runs before being cleaned by Ravindra Jadeja. However, he is still at the 7th spot and would be looking to better his position in the upcoming matches.
