The Afghanistan men’s cricket team has found a big reason to celebrate as they have entered the Semifinals for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. Afghanistan played a match against Bangladesh earlier today as their last fixture of the Super 8 stage, and defeated the men in green. However, it was Gulbadin Naib’s seemingly fake injury that made AFG fans laugh out loud.
The match was being played at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, as West Indies is the co-host for the tournament. Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 115/5 in the first innings of the match. Despite a low score, the Afghanistan team did not lose hope, restricting Bangladesh to a total score of 105 with all their wickets gone. Afghanistan is now entering the semifinals alongside India, England and South Africa.
“Oscar Worthy performance” when Gulbadin Naib got a hamstring injury from air
A surprising incident took place in the match when Gulbadin Naib, an Afghanistan cricketer, complained of a hamstring issue while standing at slips, just moments after receiving a signal from head coach Jonathan Trott in the dressing room.
England’s Trott had just signalled Gulbadin to slow down the pace of the match seeing how it would soon start raining and Bangladesh’s Litton Das had almost equalled Afghanistan’s 83 score in DLS.
Gulbadin saw his coach’s signal and acted impulsively, falling to the ground, complaining of a hamstring injury. Though funny, the incident had visibly frustrated Bangladesh’s Litton Das. It soon started raining and covers were drawn on the ground.
Gulbadin’s funny comment on Naveen Ul Haq’s Post
Afghanistan’s fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq shared a funny post on Instagram, that referenced popular Indian movie ‘Welcome’ starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif. Haq’s post basically showed how Gulbadin faked his hamstring injury during the match and got well right after the match finished.
Several social media users found the post funny, many calling it an “Oscar Worthy Performance”. On the same Instagram Post, Gulbadin also made a comment of his own, laughing about his hamstring injury.
“Hey mate i’m feeling not well..Hamstring problem” the comment said.
Afghanistan will now be playing against South Africa in the semifinals for the tournament.
