The Pakistan Cricket team is more than likely to get eliminated out of the run for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after an unfortunate turn of events that do not favour the team.
Pakistan lost their first 2 matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against USA and India respectively, Pakistan team had finally tasted victory yesterday in a match against Canada. However, their chances of playing their next match seem slim to none.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka face “state of emergency”
A state of emergency has been declared in Fort Lauderdale, Florida due to the life threatening conditions of flash flood in the city.
Flights, interstates and regular roads have been blocked by the state authorities in South Florida, because of the severity of the storms. In fact, the Sri Lankan cricket team is currently stranded in the city, due to these restrictions.
Fort Lauderdale is one of the three venues in USA scheduled to host the T20 World Cup matches. It will host three important matches of the tournament, between India, Pakistan and USA. The Sri Lanka vs Nepal match was also washed out due to heavy rain in and around the stadium.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the rainfall and flooding has affected and may continue to impact the operational capability of critical infrastructure, including major interstates, state and county roadways, airports, schools, and other critical infrastructure throughout these counties,” Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, said in the declaration.
Pakistan’s chances of making it to the super 8
It is more than likely that the Pakistan Cricket team might have to return to their home country if the Florida stadium continues to be surrounded by flood and rains.
The Fort Lauderdale stadium is scheduled to host two matches this week, with Pakistan vs Sri Lanka on Sunday and USA vs Ireland on Friday.
In case USA beats Ireland or, the match between these two gets washed out, team USA will get an easy entry into the top 8 teams of the tournament, alongside India from Group A. Thus is because USA was able to defeat Pakistan in a match.
In case the USA loses the match against Ireland, Pakistan has the chance to win their match against Sri Lanka and get a chance to stand alongside India to be the two top teams of Group A.
USA has lost only 1 match in the tournament, to India while Pakistan has won only 1, against Canada.
