Pakistan to Re-use Multan Pitch for 2nd Test Against England

Pakistan is reusing the same Multan pitch for the second Test against England, an unusual move aimed at turning their fortunes after a heavy defeat in the first Test.

Pakistan to Re-use Multan Pitch for Second Test Against England

Pakistan is set to re-use the same pitch for the second Test against England in Multan, following their innings defeat in the first Test.

The decision comes as the team looks to reverse their fortunes after failing to win a Test at home in 11 consecutive matches.

The pitch, which was heavily watered by ground staff after the first match, showed visible cracks, particularly in the bowlers’ footmarks, raising the possibility of spin playing a more significant role in the second Test.

Ground Conditions and Team Preparations

Both teams held optional training sessions on Sunday, with industrial-sized fans positioned at either end of the pitch to aid the drying process.

Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie and captain Shan Masood inspected the pitch, while England’s Ben Stokes ramped up his bowling workload, potentially signalling his return for the second match.

James Anderson, who is overseeing England’s fast bowlers, indicated that the dry and cracked pitch could favour spinners, a factor that could work in England’s favour.

Pakistan’s Unusual Strategy

Reusing the same pitch for consecutive Tests is uncommon, but Pakistan’s decision reflects their desperation for a win.

The ICC regulations only require that the pitch be in “best possible condition,” not necessarily fresh or unused.

With 1,599 runs scored across both innings in the first Test, the surface offered little for bowlers, leaving Pakistan hopeful that the dry conditions and cracks could help turn the tide in their favour in the second match.

England, already leading the series 1-0, is preparing for a more spin-friendly contest.
