Papua New Guinea Batter Sese Bau Makes History With His 50 In T20 World Cup 2024

Papua New Guinea and West Indies were embroiled in an entertaining face off in the second match for the ICC T20 World Cup today at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. This led to an impressive first innings with PNG scoring 136/8 against their much more mature opponents.

West Indies won today’s match, scoring 137/5 in 19 overs, hence winning the match by 5 wickets. The PNG bowlers and Fielders worked their best to take wickets of the West Indies side.

Sese Bau scores second ever 50 in T20 World Cup, writes history

PNG batsman Sese Bau has become the second player for his nation to score fifty runs in the T20 World Cup. Bau was one of the best assets for PNG in the first innings at the Province Stadium.

With PNG disappointing their fans with poor performance, at 7/2 in the third over, Bau kept his cool and helped PNG to put a good total to defend.

On the first ball of the 16th over, Bau scored a single and finished his half century, which became the second ever 50 ever scored by PNG in the T20 World Cup. 

Assad Vala was the first PNG batsman to achieve this feat, in a match against Oman, by scoring 56 runs off 43 balls back in 2021.

The PNG team’s middle order features the left-handed batter. He has been linked with them since the commencement of their cricketing career, when he represented the United Club in Port Moresby. 

Bau, who scored a stunning 171 runs in the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers, grew up idolizing Adam Gilchrist, and his playing style reflects that. He made his PNG debut in both ODIs and T20Is in 2016, and he has since played over 100 international matches in both formats.

PNG will next face off against Uganda in the 9th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on 6 June at the Providence Stadium.
