“Pat Cummins Was Running Out with..” Sanjay Krishnamurthi is starstruck

While SFU won the match by DLS method, it was still pretty evident that they would win. 21 year old Sanjay Krishnamurthi became the Player Of The Match after scoring 79* off 42.

During Krishnamurthi’s innings, his spirits unexpectedly lifted when Pat Cummins emerged as the drinks carrier after a wicket fell. This chance encounter provided a timely morale boost midway through his batting performance.

“I saw water brought on the field. And then I realised that Cummins was running the water on the field. And he just told me, ‘This is excellent striking, keep going’. It almost hit me that Pat Cummins was running out with drinks. And what he said was definitely encouraging.”

What Sanjay Krishnamurthi said on his performance

With just one run required from three deliveries, the Unicorns secured their victory in a calm manner. Their young batsman casually scored the winning single with a simple shot to deep mid-wicket.

Despite the significance of the moment and his limited experience at this level of play, the batter showed remarkable restraint. The understated reaction stood in contrast to what might typically be expected in such a high-pressure situation.

“Just letting the emotions set in. Also, I guess it was not necessarily the most important game for the team, right? Because I felt like this is just a preparation for the playoffs, which is where it really counts,” was Krishnamurthi’s matter-of-fact response about the lack of celebration.

“There were a few shots that I played and then surprised myself. Like, even the second ball that I had for six off Akeal Hosein and it wasn’t necessarily in my mind to hit that ball for six. But when I saw the ball, I just hit it. And I think I realised just how powerful I can be when I don’t get in my own way, in a way, like when I’m fearless for playing,” he added.
