PCB Issues Strict Warning to Centrally Contracted Players on Fitness Levels

For a long, the Pakistan cricket team has been struggling with their performance on the big stage. Their consecutive failure has become a big concern now. Players’ failure has become one of the biggest reasons behind this. Now, the Pakistan Cricket Board is on its way to taking a big step. The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued a stern warning to several centrally contracted players, urging them to enhance their fitness levels to maintain their positions within the team.

PCB’s Strict Instruction:

In the last few years, Pakistan has faced consecutive setbacks. They are continuously battling with their off-form. In some major tournaments like ICC ODI World Cup and T20I World Cup, they made their exit from the group stage. Along with form, fitness is a crucial issue in modern-day cricket. This is a major area where the team is lagging behind.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is taking significant action regarding player fitness. They have issued a warning to several centrally contracted players, emphasizing the need for improved fitness levels. Failure to meet these standards could result in losing their spots on the team. The board has made it clear that they will no longer tolerate subpar fitness.

Recently, some players did not achieve satisfactory results in fitness tests administered by Pakistan’s trainers and physiotherapists. Several players failed to meet the benchmarks set in earlier assessments. To address this, the squad will undergo another round of fitness tests on September 30, ahead of the upcoming home series against England.

Gillespie and Kirsten’s Urge to the Board:

A report indicates that coaching duo Jason Gillespie, the red ball coach, and Gary Kirsten, the white ball coach have advised the PCB to enforce strict fitness standards for all players. They emphasized that there should be no exceptions regarding fitness levels. The coaches believe that maintaining high fitness standards is crucial for the team’s success in upcoming matches and tournaments.

While revealing this, a PCB official said, “The two foreign head coaches, Jason Gillispie and Gary Kirsten had told the PCB Chairman that no player should be given any benefit as far as fitness levels are concerned.”

In a few times, Pakistan is all set to face England in a three-match Test series on their home soil. A few weeks back, the men in green faced a shameful 2-0 defeat against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series on their home soil. Another thrilling series is coming up. When England played a three-match Test series against Pakistan in 2022, Pakistan was whitewashed on their home soil. This can be a perfect stage to take the revenge back.
