In the last few days, there has been a lot of turmoil in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Najam Sethi, the former interim chairman, has been replaced by Zaka Ashraf, the newly appointed PCB leader. According to rumours, the 70-year-old
Ashraf is looking for a new chief selector since Haroon Rashid’s time in the role is coming to an end.
Big Changes in Pakistan set up
In the same vein, Ashraf is said to have met with former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez, who has been given the position of head selector. According to the story, the former all-rounder did not turn down the offer but instead bought himself some time to make a decision. Hafeez, who has recently begun his career as a cricket analyst, could be a suitable fit for the post because he has played with the majority of the players on the current Pakistan circuit. He would have seen several of the players up close, which could have helped him make better decisions.
During the meeting, Hafeez congratulated Ashraf on his appointment as the new CEO of PCB.
“Zaka Ashraf is a good administrator. I honestly respect him a lot. I will consider a good offer to serve Pakistan cricket,” Mohammad Hafeez said.
According to the report, former Pakistani batsman Younis Khan and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar could be given key roles in the PCB. Khan has played 118 Tests, 265 One-Day Internationals, and 25 Twenty20 Internationals for Pakistan. Akhtar, who was recognised for his speed, played for Pakistan in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs, and 15 T20Is.
In addition to these two stalwarts, two other former Pakistani cricketers, Mohsin Hassan Khan and Saleem Yousuf, may be appointed to prominent roles in the country’s cricket regulatory body.
The next assignment for Pakistan is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The first Test begins in Galle on July 16. Prior to this match, Babar Azam’s team will play a two-day practise match.
