At 35, veteran spinner Piyush Chawla continues to showcase his skills in the Indian Premier League (IPL), proving that age is just a number when it comes to passion for cricket. Chawla, a key member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning teams, recently addressed rumors about his retirement.
Chawla’s career has been distinguished by sharing the field with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, and his longevity has seen him play alongside the next generation of stars, including Shaw. Despite speculation, the spinner has not yet made any formal announcement about his retirement from cricket.

In a light-hearted conversation, Chawla shared an amusing exchange with young cricketer Prithvi Shaw. “A while ago, Prithvi Shaw told me ‘PC bhai bas karo yaar ab’ (PC bhai, stop now). I responded saying, I’ve played with Sachin paaji and now with his son. I am playing with you, and after playing with your son, I will retire,” Chawla shared during an appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s show.
When asked who would retire first between him and MS Dhoni, Chawla humorously pointed to his former captain. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, but his influence remains strong in the cricketing world. Mohammed Shami recently shared insights into Dhoni’s approach to retirement during a conversation on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.
According to Shami, Dhoni said, “First, when you yourself get bored, and second, when you realize you’re about to be kicked out of the team (Jab lage ki laat padne wali hai).” Dhoni’s philosophy reflects his laid-back attitude toward decisions about his career.
