South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is a common name among the Chennai Super Kings fans. The player had a good outing for the side and played well under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. While asked about Dhoni in a recent interview, he shared his experience.
Dhoni backs players
Ngidi was picked up by Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. He picked up 11 wickets from seven games and contributed in their comeback. His team went on to lift the title after a two-year absence due to spot-fixing. It was also the brilliance of the captain cool MS Dhoni that helped the team performance after returning to the league. Ngidi was an integral part of Dhoni’s game plan with the pace attack.
In a recent interview, he was obviously asked about Dhoni. Ngidi told how he learnt a lot from the veteran. He also sounded glad as Dhoni backed him. “Very good experience for me. A lot of learning happened there. I was given a lot of responsibility as well in a short space of time. He (Dhoni) backed me, the coaching staff backed me and the players did as well. So I felt I just fit in the team quickly. Playing with Dhoni, I got a lot to learn from him.”
Enjoyable experience for Ngidi
He further added that he absolutely enjoyed working with him. “Certain situations where you might be a day in the headlights, he’s able to just call me down and just remind that you know at the end of the day, it’s still a game. Very very good experience and I really enjoyed working with him.”
Ngidi who had a good start to his IPL career missed the last season due to injury. Chennai Super Kings on the other hand even after managing to reach the final in 2019 was defeated by the Mumbai Indians.
