Northamptonshire’s Indian cricketers Prithvi Shaw and Yuzvendra Chahal took some time off from their County commitments to visit Manchester United’s iconic home ground, Old Trafford, on Friday, August 16. This visit came just a day after Manchester United kicked off their 2024-25 Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham at the same venue.
In a photo shared by Shaw on his Instagram story, the stylish opener was seen dressed in a yellow T-shirt paired with a matching cap, while Chahal opted for a green shirt. The duo appeared to be in high spirits as they posed outside the famous stadium.
Chahal and Shaw are currently playing for Northamptonshire in the English County circuit. They last played a One-Day Cup match against Kent in Canterbury on Wednesday, August 14. With a break before their next fixture in the County Championship against Middlesex in Northwood, starting August 22, the two cricketers made the most of their time by catching a football game at Old Trafford.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who was left out of India’s white-ball teams after the 2024 T20 World Cup, made a remarkable debut for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup, claiming an impressive 5/14 in his 10 overs, leading his team to a nine-wicket win over Kent. The 34-year-old leg-spinner is eager to continue his good form in the upcoming County Championship matches, where he is available for the first five games of the season.
Despite being India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals with 96 wickets, Chahal has not been picked for the recent series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, and he did not feature in any matches during India’s victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.
Prithvi Shaw, on the other hand, has also been in fine form for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup, scoring 343 runs in eight matches at an average of 42.87, including three half-centuries. Shaw will be looking to replicate his success in the red-ball format as well. The Mumbai batter had a challenging IPL season, playing only eight games for Delhi Capitals in the last two editions. His last appearance for the Indian team was in July 2021.
