Gujarat Titans completed an easy victory over Punjab Kings in a rather slow game tonight. Punjab batters lacked grit and confidence as the team faltered to just 153 runs in 20 overs. Gujarat chased down the target easily on the penultimate ball of the inning, with Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha shining with the bat for them. The Purple Cap has seen a few changes after today’s game.
Rashid moves to 2nd
Gujarat Titans’ star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has been slowly making his way in the league, with at least one wicket in each game he has played so far. Even in today’s game, he picked up an important wicket of Matthew Short who was looking dangerous. He finished his 4 overs with figures of 1 for 26 and now has 9 wickets in the league in 4 games. He has now moved up to the 2nd spot in the Purple Cap and is Gujarat’s most successful bowler this season.
Gujarat domination
Gujarat Titans have dominated the Purple Cap right from the start. The team has three bowlers in the top 10 list. Apart from Rashid Khan, pacers Alzarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami have also been pivotal in Gujarat’s good run so far in the season. Alzarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami both have 7 wickets in 4 games and are currently seated at the 4th spot and 6th spot respectively.
Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh has also found his way back into the top 10 after slipping out for a while. He picked up 1 wicket in 4 overs tonight and is perfectly seated between Alzarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami at the 5th spot. Yuzvendra Chahal continues to be the Purple Cap holder currently with 10 wickets to his name. It must be noted that there’s a perfect balance in the Purple Cap with 5 spinners and 5 fast bowlers in the top 10.
