As Jay Shah prepares to transition into his new role as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun accelerating the process to find his replacement. The topic took center stage at the 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Bengaluru, where members emphasized the need to expedite Shah’s succession planning.
Candidates in the Running for BCCI Secretary
The AGM discussed potential successors to Shah, with prominent names like Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, Ashish Shelar, BCCI Treasurer, Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia, and Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, being floated as the front-runners.
The urgency of the decision stems from upcoming events, including the IPL auction, which demands solid leadership during the transition phase.
According to a state association representative present at the AGM, “The request is to keep all due processes in place to ensure clarity moving forward. It’s vital to finalize the decision soon so we can focus on other critical tasks.”

In addition to leadership transitions, the AGM announced that Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya were elected to the IPL Governing Council.
Former cricketer V. Chamundeswarnath was also inducted as a player representative in the Council by the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA).
