Alcaraz opts for a medical timeout before winning set 2
Carlos Alcaraz won the first set with relative ease, but faced a tougher challenge in the second set. His Dutch opponent, Tallon Griekspoor, matched him shot for shot. Late in the second set, Alcaraz called for a medical timeout. But he returned to the court shortly after, showing no visible signs of discomfort.
Despite this, Griekspoor put up a strong fight, making the match more competitive. Alcaraz managed to edge out Griekspoor in a tense second-set tiebreaker. He ultimately secured a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-1, 7-6.
Wimbledon champion tops Women’s singles race
Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia defeated Wang Xinyu of China in their second-round match with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu from Canada was eliminated in the second round.
However, Rio 2016 silver medalist Angelique Kerber of Germany continued her strong performance in the tournament, securing a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Jaqueline Adina Cristian from Romania.
