Rahul Dravid Turns Down Extra RS 2.5 Crore Bonus, Opts for Same Reward as Coaching Staff

After long 11 years of waiting for the ICC trophy, Team India finally lifted the T20 World Cup trophy by defeating South Africa. After facing a heartbreaking defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023, Team India made an excellent bounce back in the recently ended tournament. After the sensational World Cup win, BCCI announced a prize money worth 125 crore for all the members of the team. But Rahul Dravid’s generous move grabbed the limelight.

BCCI Prize Money to the Players:

Since the beginning of the T20 World Cup, Team India has been in exceptional form. They won all the group stage and super eight stage matches and entered into the final match against South Africa with an unbeaten streak. In the final match, the Indian team was in exceptional form. From Virat Kohli’s exceptional knock of 76 runs to Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah’s heroics, the team shined and lifted the prestigious trophy.

The BCCI has announced a bonus of INR 125 crore for India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad. Board secretary Jay Shah shared the news on X, following India’s thrilling victory over South Africa in the final in Barbados.

Jay Shah wrote, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Dravid’s Generous Step:

Rahul Dravid, the outgoing head coach of the Indian cricket team, declined an additional Rs 2.5 crore prize money offered by the BCCI. This decision came despite other coaching staff members receiving Rs 2.5 crore each for their contributions to India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Dravid, known for his integrity, opted to accept Rs 2.5 crore, the same amount as his supporting staff, including batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip, who were also rewarded equally. This move ensured fairness among the team’s coaching members, reflecting Dravid’s humility and team spirit.

A BCCI source revealed this. He said, “Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,”
