Ramandeep Singh, a 27-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder from Mohali, has been capturing attention with his powerful six-hitting skills, earning him a place in India’s T20I squad for the series against South Africa.

Growing up with close friend Shubman Gill, Ramandeep’s training sessions often included a contest to see who could face the most balls, with his father, Hardev Singh, as the dedicated throwdown specialist.
Despite not being picked for India U-19, he continued to excel in Punjab’s cricket circuit, eventually securing a position with the state team.

“As an all-rounder myself, my role model is Andre Russell. I want to have the same impact as him. When I go to the crease, there should be fear in the opposition that I will take the game away. I want to create that kind of impact for India,” he says.
“Gautam sir planned 30-minute range-hitting sessions, and Russell made sure he was with me. His insights helped me a lot during the IPL.”

Gambhir’s Backing and Career Milestones
Gautam Gambhir, then a KKR mentor, played a key role in defining Ramandeep’s role.
Gambhir’s advice, which resonated with Ramandeep, especially during high-pressure scenarios. In an intra-squad match, he clinched victory with a six, earning Gambhir’s praise and his ongoing support.
“Gautam sir told me I would be batting at No. 7 and No. 8 and advised me to prepare accordingly,” says Ramandeep.
“During an intra-squad match at KKR, my side needed six runs off two balls to win, and I clinched the match with a six. Gautam sir told me, ‘You are my favourite cricketer in this team, and I will back you throughout the tournament. You should never play with fear’.”
This confidence, along with a successful Emerging Asia Cup performance, strengthened Ramandeep’s readiness for international cricket.
