Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes that Jay Shah’s new role as the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman will benefit the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Latif suggests that Shah’s leadership could lead to positive changes for Pakistani cricket, potentially enhancing support and collaboration between the PCB and the ICC. This development is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s position within international cricket and contribute to the growth and improvement of the sport in the country.

Latif also mentioned that Jay Shah is likely to work towards ensuring India’s participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to decide whether to send the Indian team to Pakistan for this prestigious event. Shah’s efforts are expected to play a crucial role in facilitating this significant cricketing fixture and fostering cooperation between the two cricketing nations.
He said, “ PCB has not opposed Shah’s appointment for a reason. I think there’s an understanding. If India’s team comes, it will be because of Jay Shah’s efforts, along with support from their government.”
Latif stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nearly approved sending the Indian team to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. He expressed confidence that India will indeed participate in the event, highlighting that the approval process is already well underway. He further said, “ Approval has already been halfway granted. India is coming to Pakistan.”
India last visited Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. Since then, the two teams have not played any bilateral series in Pakistan due to ongoing political tensions and concerns over player safety. The geopolitical climate and security issues have prevented any further cricketing tours between the nations. This long hiatus has kept the teams apart, with matches between India and Pakistan being limited to multi-nation tournaments or neutral venues.
