While batting first, Team India faced some major setbacks after losing wickets early. 10th Player of the Match Award for Ashwin:
Ravichandran Ashwin has been named Player of the Match for his impressive century in the first innings and a six-wicket haul in the final innings. This marks his 10th Player of the Match award in Test cricket. Ashwin humorously commented on his growing collection of awards, showcasing his all-round brilliance once again on the field.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s recent performance saw him match the legendary Shane Warne’s record of 37 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. Ashwin’s brilliant figures of 6/88 in 21 overs put him on par with Warne, who finished his career with the same number of fifers. Only Muttiah Muralitharan stands ahead of them, with 67 five-wicket hauls, a staggering 30 more than Ashwin. This feat further cements Ashwin’s place among the all-time greats in the format.
Additionally, Ashwin surpassed Anil Kumble’s record for the most wickets in the fourth innings of Test matches. With 96 wickets in 35 innings at an average of 19.40, he now holds the top spot among Indian bowlers. He has also taken six five-wicket hauls in fourth innings. Kumble, who has 94 wickets in this phase, still remains the Indian bowler with the most international wickets overall.
