Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20 Internationals, following India‘s T20 World Cup 2024 victory. Jadeja’s decision comes after a 15-year career in the shortest format of the game. The announcement was made via social media, where he posted a picture with the World Cup trophy, celebrating India’s 7-run win against South Africa in the final.
Jadeja expressed his gratitude in his retirement post: “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support.”
Jadeja, who debuted against Sri Lanka in February 2009, played 74 T20Is, scoring 515 runs and taking 54 wickets. His best batting performance was 46 off 29 deliveries against England in 2022, while his top bowling figures were 3/15 against Scotland in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He was a part of six T20 World Cup campaigns, finally winning the title in 2024.
Known for his exceptional fielding, Jadeja stood out even during the era of great Indian fielders like Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh. With all-rounders Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya now key players, Jadeja’s retirement from T20Is will allow him to focus on ODIs and Tests.
