The seventy second match for IPL 2024 is being held between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first. The move is a well thought out one, considering how the dew affects batting in the first innings of a match.
Being an eliminator match, the losing team got eliminated from the IPL 2024 season. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 172/8 runs in the first innings and lost today’s match by 4 wickets after RR scored 174/6.
Dew, slow pitch and more are the reasons Faf gives for loss
Addressing the audience in the post-match segment, losing captain Faf du Plessis spoke about the team’s performance in today’s match. He called the pitch a 180 pitch, considering how it was quite slow.
“With the dew coming, we felt we were short with the bat. Did think we were 20 runs shy of what was a good score. Credit to the boys – they fought really well. That’s all you can ask for. If you look at naturally assessing the pitch and conditions, you would say it’s a 180 pitch because it was swinging upfront and was quite slow.” Faf said.
Faf “proud of” RCB teammates
Opening up about the impact player rule, Faf du Plessis said “what we’ve found out this season, with the impact player, the par score isn’t enough any more. Also with the dew coming in.”
Additionally, he also praised his teammates and highlighted how proud he was of them, especially after a surprising comeback in the IPL 2024 season.
“Extremely proud. Lot of teams – their wheels would’ve fallen off after 1 from 9. To come back like that, six games in a row, takes a lot of heart and character. We weren’t special tonight in terms of pushing that extra 20 runs with the bat.” Faf said.
