The auction for IPl 2024 is getting interesting as it goes into more depth. The bidding is getting more intense. This edition of the IPL auction records a historical record. Kolkata Knight Riders bought Australian legend Mitchell Starc for a huge amount of 24.75 crore. This bid became historical. After being picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders, Mitchell Starc showed his gratitude.
The Historical Bid:
On December 19, the IPL 2024 auction is going at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. For the very first time, the IPL auction is happening g outside India. Australian players are conquering the IPL auction as Pat Cummins bought the SunRisers Hyderabad with a whopping amount of 20.5 crores. But the surprise was yet to come.
Kolkata Knight Riders make an explosion. They purchased Mitchell Starc for a whopping amount of 24.75 crore. Initially, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals were bidding for the Aussie legend. Later Gujarat Titans joined them. But Kolkata sidelined the others and named him in the squad. After 2015, Mitchell Starc put his name in the IPL auction for the upcoming IPL.
Mitchell Starc’s Words:
This is Mitchell Starc’s highest bid in his IPL career. This bid was recorded as the most expensive bid in the history of the IPL. After a long, Starc is coming back to the IPL. He has got an unbelievable amount. He is in great form. In the World Cup, he performed exceptionally well. Australia won the World Cup for the sixth time.
After being picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders, he expressed his feelings. He said, “I guess (worth the wait). Really excited to get my name in and join KKR. It was a shock (price). I was getting updates from my wife before I saw it on screen. Surprised but thrilled to be joining KKR and returning to the IPL. I have played cricket against those guys and now I can play with him. Shreyas is there, Andre and Jason as well. Our Test Squad WhatsApp group has been going off. Pretty special night for both of us ( him and Cummins).
Later he added, “I’ve prioritized Test cricket, playing as much as I could for Australia. That was my thought process for the last number of years. Coming into the end of this year and next year it is a lot quieter for Australia. There is a T20 World Cup coming next year and this is a good chance to play some good T20 cricket with the best league in the world.”
