Reports: Suryakumar Yadav Back from Thumb Injury, Set to Play Duleep Trophy under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Captaincy

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, has made a successful recovery from a thumb injury and is set to play for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C team in their crucial Duleep Trophy match against Mayank Agarwal’s India A team. The third and final match of the tournament will take place at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur, starting September 19.

Injury Recovery and Return

Yadav had missed the first two matches of the Duleep Trophy due to a thumb injury he sustained while fielding during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. Following the injury, he underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Now fully recovered, the 34-year-old right-handed batter is expected to significantly strengthen India C’s batting lineup, which has already secured a victory against India D and taken a first-innings lead against India B.

On Tuesday, Suryakumar shared his travel plans on social media, posting a picture with the caption: “Next stop: Anantapur,” signaling his readiness to return to competitive cricket.

Impact on Upcoming T20I Series

Yadav’s return is timely for Team India as he will also be available for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh following the Duleep Trophy. The T20I series is set to kick off on October 6 in Gwalior, with subsequent matches scheduled for October 9 in Delhi and October 12 in Hyderabad. His experience and form will be crucial as India aims to build momentum ahead of this important series.

In contrast, Shubman Gill will miss the T20I series against Bangladesh due to workload management. A BCCI source confirmed that Gill will be rested as he prepares for an upcoming Test series against New Zealand starting October 16. Alongside Gill, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are also being rested to manage their workloads effectively.
