Brian Lara, the former West Indies captain and legendary captain, has unveiled his selection of players for India’s T20 World Cup side. The ICC event, which begins shortly after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), will provide Team India with another golden opportunity to end their ICC trophy drought. The Indian Cricket Team has not won an ICC trophy since 2013.
With ICC’s deadline to declare the team approaching, BCCI is in talks to select their best 15 for the tournament. The announcement has to be made before 1 May, 2024. ICC T20 World Cup 2024 starts on June 1 while team India’s first match for the tournament is on 5 June.
Brian Lara’s India squad for 2024 T20 World Cup
The former West Indies cricketer has shared his ideal team for the championship. However, it was surprising to not see Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill in the squad.
Both players have been showing great skills in IPL 2024, impressing almost all experts. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson seem to have impressed Lara as they got a spot on the squad. Here’s all the players he chose:
Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Mayank Yadav.
Mayank Yadav Finds A Spot
Lucknow Super Giants’ young pacer Mayank Yadav has his name in the squad Brian Lara came up with. The pacer has shown his skills by bowling at around 155kph this season.
Yadav had however left the LSG vs GT match midway, after bowling and over because of abdominal pain. The fast bowler has been practising in the nets, but has not yet returned to play in a match.
