Rishabh Pant gets support from Ajit Agarkar

Rishabh Pant’s shot decisions have become an issue in the Indian cricket team. The management intends to fix it at the soonest. While there are criticisms over the same, Pant is receiving supports as well. After Sunil Gavaskar now-legendary bowler Ajit Agarkar came out in support of the young keeper-batsman.

The back story

Initially, Pant’s shot-making was not giving much importance as he was expected to correct himself with time. His inexperience was taking into consideration for the same. But with no improvement visible as such, the young talent started to attract critics for his act. Even the head coach recently in an interview said that Pant needs to correct this at the soonest. Clearly this has become an issue for the team management that they need to find a solution as soon as possible. Since Pant is considered as the successor of Dhoni to become the next keeper-batsman for the Indian team, no wonder his actions are always under scrutiny.

What Agarkar says

The good part is that the 21-year old has a number of supporters as well and Ajit Agarkar is one of them. In an interview with ESPN, he told, “I cannot believe that there is so much talk around a guy who has two Test hundreds away from India and who can play impactful innings. T20 can sometimes get you into trouble because you have to play shots and the ball was there to be hit, only the execution was not probably to what he would have liked.”

He also suggested batting order change for Pant while Shreyas Iyer could bat at No. 4. “You also need to decide what you need from him. Do you want him to be a number 4 batsman who bats through the innings or you want him to be that impactful player and you are ready for those sorts of dismissals? But there is too much talk of it. Maybe Shreyas Iyer, who has shown some good form, can come at No.4 and Pant could be dropped down the order and be asked to play freely.”
