Rising Indian cricket star Nitish Kumar Reddy is resolute in his determination to return to action after an untimely injury sidelined him just before his much-anticipated debut for the Indian T20 team against Zimbabwe.
From IPL Breakout to National Recognition
Reddy, a standout performer for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, earned his maiden call-up for the national team. However, a last-minute injury forced him out of the squad. Despite the setback, Reddy remains optimistic and focused on the future. “It is a part of the game,” he told ANI. “I am trying to focus on the future… There are opportunities everywhere.”
Dedication and Hard Work
Reddy’s impressive performance in IPL 2024, where he scored 303 runs in 13 matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, caught the eye of the national selectors. Reflecting on his journey, he revealed the dedication behind his powerful batting: “First year, I didn’t get the opportunity to bat. I practiced facing deliveries closer to 140 to 150 kph.” He credits consistent shadow practice for his ability to handle fast bowling.
Learning from a World Cup Winner
Playing under SRH captain Pat Cummins, the World Cup-winning pacer, proved to be a valuable experience for Reddy. “He is like a gentleman; he is so cool,” Reddy says of Cummins. “He’s not angry on the field and always keeps his cool, that’s what I learned from him.”
Aspiring to be the Best All-Rounder
While known for his batting prowess, Reddy is also a handy bowler with 52 scalps in first-class cricket. He recognizes the importance of developing both aspects of his game: “I have to be strong. I have to think I have to be the best all-rounder.”
Evolving Inspirations
Reddy’s cricketing inspiration has evolved over time. Initially a Virat Kohli admirer, he now draws inspiration from all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Ben Stokes. “Growing up, I was a pure batsman. Between U-16 and U-19, I came to bowling. So, growing up, Virat Kohli was my idol, and later on, if I have to name some all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Ben Stokes, I like both of them. They are pure all-rounders. I want to become like them in future,” he declares.
As Nitish Kumar Reddy works towards his comeback, his resilience and dedication promise a bright future for this rising star in Indian cricket.
