The inaugural edition will take place in July 2024, establishing it as an annual event. On October 23, 2023, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the Esports World Cup at the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh.

The competition will be hosted annually in Riyadh, with Ralf Reichert transitioning from Chairman of the ESL FACEIT Group. He will now be the CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation.

The SEF Arena at Boulevard Riyadh City is hosting the Esports World Cup, offering a total prize pool of $2.5 million. This is across three main competitions: Fortnite and Street Fighter 6, each with $1 million, and Teamfight Tactics, with $500,000.

Additionally, $50,000 is awarded to the MVP of each tournament. The group stages are ongoing, with finals scheduled for Sunday. Running from July 3 to August 25, the Esports World Cup features a record-breaking $60 million prize pool. It also and 22 tournaments across 21 titles.
