In the world of cricket, controversies are Inevitable and will turn into sensational ones on social media more than the performance of the players themselves. In the recent match between RR and DC that took place on 29th March 2024, controversy arose after the match when RR’s South African bowler Nandre Burger expressed his opinion on the batting approach of Riyan Parag against the DC bowler Anrich Nortje.
The Riyan Parag’s Show:
As the RR top-order batsmen began to crumble for the tremendous bowling of DC, everyone half-presumed that DC would win the match and register their first victory. But the assumption of the audience was ruined by the magnificent batting of Riyan Parag who scored 84 runs in just 45 balls leading RR to victory.
In the last over of the match, when RR was at a decent score of 160 and Riyan Parag was showing his domination, DC relied on their experienced player Anrich Nortje. But Riyan Parag hasn’t hesitated to take over the pace of Anrich Nortje by scoring 25 runs in the final over including fours and sixes.
The Last Over Controversy:
The match was great, the RR fans and players started to celebrate their victory and Riyan Parag received the Player of the Match award but the RR’s bowler Nandre Burger looked a bit off.
After the match, though Nandre Burger complimented Riyan Parag for his innings, it seemed like Riyan Parag taking over Anrich Nortje in the last over bothered him as he commented “Thanks for batting so well, you gave me the chance to bowl. Without you, I wouldn’t have had the chance. Not happy you took on a fellow countryman. But I am glad because you’re in my team. I tell you, that last over was sensational”
Though Nandre Burger expressed his gratitude to Riyan Parag for his batting which provided him with a better chance to contain runs, Riyan Parag’s plan to take over Anrich Nortje in the last over troubled Nandre Burger. The statement created a dilemma among the audience as to whether this shows Nandre Burgers’s sportsmanship or lack of it.
