Riyan Parag, the talented cricketer from Rajasthan Royals, has emerged as one of the standout performers in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Despite his stellar performance, Parag remains unsatisfied, believing that he could have contributed more to his team’s success.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Parag expressed his thoughts on his IPL campaign, stating, “Not really, to be honest. I think I had a good season, I could have won more games. I left a few games very short, so yeah, I think I’ve got a lot to improve upon. Even the last game that we lost, I should have finished that. I should have at least taken the team closer to victory, but yeah not really satisfied but happy.”
Parag’s sentiment reflects his commitment to excellence and his desire to continually improve his game. Despite finishing as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament, with an impressive 573 runs in 14 innings, Parag remains focused on the areas where he can enhance his performance.
Speaking about his team’s performance in the IPL, Parag acknowledged the collective effort required in cricket, stating, “I think it’s always a team’s performance. It’s a team sport right, regardless of me getting however many runs I’ve gotten, or regardless of Sanju (Samson) bhaiya getting however many runs he has gotten. I think if it doesn’t actually benefit the team, it’s useless runs.”
Parag’s attitude towards team success highlights his selfless approach to the game and his understanding of the larger objectives beyond personal achievements. Despite his individual success, Parag remains grounded and focused on contributing more to his team’s victories in the future.
Looking ahead, Parag is eager to shift his focus to the upcoming domestic season, particularly the Ranji Trophy, where he aims to make a significant impact. He emphasized the importance of the longer format and his aspiration to represent India in Test cricket, stating, “Because the main goal always is to play in the Test team right, Test cricket. So I think the Ranji Trophy is the first step.”
Parag’s determination and dedication to his craft are evident in his words, as he remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence. Despite the challenges and setbacks he has faced, Parag’s belief in his abilities and his commitment to his goals continue to drive him forward.
