Rohit Sharma’s Independence Day Tribute
On India’s 78th Independence Day, cricket captain Rohit Sharma shared a special Instagram post to celebrate the occasion. He posted a video of himself waving the national flag from the team bus during the open-top parade following India’s T20 World Cup win.
The Indian team received a grand welcome in June, parading through Mumbai on their way to Wankhede Stadium.Â
Rohit, along with his teammates, proudly waved the flag during the celebration. He had also planted the flag at a stadium in Barbados after India’s victory over South Africa.
India’s T20 World Journey
After a tough six months following their ODI World Cup loss, India’s T20 World Cup victory was a deeply emotional and triumphant moment for fans after 17 years.
India’s journey in the T20 World Cup from 2007 to 2022 has been a mix of triumphs and challenges.
India made history by winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, with Gautam Gambhir’s 75 and Rohit Sharma’s quick 30 in the final. They narrowly defended a total of 157 against Pakistan, with Sreesanth’s crucial catch securing the victory.
However, India struggled in the following tournaments. In 2009 and 2010, they failed to advance past the Super Eight stage. The 2012 World Cup saw India miss out on the semi finals despite winning two group matches.
The 2021 tournament was particularly disappointing as India lost to both Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stage, resulting in an early exit.
In knockout stages, India faced heartbreaks. In 2014, despite Virat Kohli’s impressive 319 runs throughout the tournament, India lost to Sri Lanka in the final.
The 2016 World Cup saw India reach the semifinals but lose to the West Indies. In 2022, a strong performance by Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya was overshadowed by England’s dominant chase in the semifinal.
