Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are Set to be Rested for Sri Lanka Tour

The Indian fans just experienced a remarkable T20 World Cup win. After that, the team is playing a five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. After that, the Indian side will be touring Sri Lanka for an ODI and a T20 series. But before that, BCCI took a bold decision. Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will be rested from the series.

Big Decision by BCCI:

After completing the Zimbanwe tour, Team India will move forward to the white ball series against Sri Lanka. India skipper Rohit Sharma, senior batter Virat Kohli, and pacer Jasprit Bumrah are set to be rested for the Sri Lanka tour. The Men in Blue will visit Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is. After that, the team will play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh and they are likely to return on the longest format.

This decision is driven by workload management considerations, as Rohit, Kohli, and Bumrah have been active in cricket for several months. The BCCI intends to optimize their fitness for important future fixtures by allowing them extra rest.

A BCCI source revealed, “Senior players can take some rest and get ready for the full cricket season ahead. Rohit, Virat and Bumrah have been offered rest and will join the team for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September.”

No Rohit-Kohli for T20Is:

In the Sri Lanka tour, Team India will play three T20 matches. But the senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be seen in that series as they announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game. After lifting the T20 World Cup, they both announced their retirement.

Kohli played a crucial role in the innings, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls with two sixes and six fours, rescuing India from a challenging start of 34 for three during the PowerPlay. After receiving the Man-of-the-Match award, Kohli announced that this was his final T20I match for India. He said, “This is my last T20 game playing for India, my last World Cup I was going to play. I wanted to make the most of it. And this was our aim. We wanted to win an ICC tournament, we wanted to lift the cup.”

In the same time, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from T20s.  he said, “This was my last game as well. I’ve enjoyed since the time I started playing this format. Better a time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this.”
