This decision sparked discussions about whether Rohit might also retire from Test cricket after the upcoming World Test Championship. However, Dinesh Lad firmly dismissed these speculations.
When asked if Rohit would retire from ODI cricket after the World Test Championship, Lad stated, “I’m not saying that Rohit will announce his retirement from Tests after the World Test Championship. He might, given his age.” He further explained that Rohit may want to focus on maintaining his fitness for ODIs.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy record across all formats is remarkable. He has led India in 128 matches, achieving 95 victories with a win percentage of 74.60%. In ODIs alone, he has played 48 matches, winning 34 and losing 12, resulting in a win percentage of 70.83%. His success extends to T20s, where he boasts an impressive win rate of 80.6% over 62 matches.
Notably, Rohit is also recognized for his leadership during crucial tournaments. He became the third Indian captain to win an ICC trophy with India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, adding to his accolades after previously leading India to significant wins in various formats.
