RP Singh questions the management about Ishan Kishan’s role in the Indian side

If KL Rahul is deemed unfit for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, it appears that Ishan Kishan is the frontrunner to take his place. Kishan delivered an impressive performance in the recently concluded ODI series against West Indies, earning him the title of Player of the Series.

However, RP Singh, a former Indian cricketer, has suggested that the left-handed batsman should be positioned at the fifth spot in the batting order for the remaining matches. While Kishan has primarily been utilized as an opener, the availability of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill for selection makes it improbable for Kishan to secure an opening slot. Therefore, RP Singh proposes that the team management should experiment with Kishan in the number five position, allowing him to adapt to this role.

RP Singh said

“According to me, Ishan should play at No. 5 if you see him at No. 5 for the (ODI) World Cup. If KL Rahul is unavailable in the future, Ishan Kishan is his backup option. So he has to learn to play at No. 5,” Singh said while talking to JioCinema.

“When Rohit Sharma comes, Rohit and Shubman Gill will open, although Gill’s performance has slightly saddened our hearts. But still if both of them open, where can Ishan Kishan get a place, it is down the order,” he added.

Jaiswal’s introduction took place during the third T20I match against West Indies, though it didn’t result in a significant influence. Nonetheless, the 37-year-old believes that a single appearance cannot accurately gauge the potential impact an individual can make.

Thus, he advocates for consistent support from the team management for Jaiswal. He emphasizes the need for Jaiswal to be given more regular opportunities, highlighting his fearless playing style that has the potential to contribute positively to the team.

“You cannot give a player just one match. According to me, you should give him at least three, four or five matches. You get to see the fearless approach in one match. If he scores runs, he continues with the same approach in the next match. If he doesn’t score runs, a batter falls slightly behind,” Singh mentioned.
