Indian shooter Rubina Francis has qualified for the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 final at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Despite a challenging start, Rubina finished sixth among 20 competitors in the qualification round, securing her spot in the final with a score of 556. The top eight shooters from the qualification round advanced to the final, which is scheduled for 6:15 PM IST on the same day.
Rubina’s performance in the qualification round was a mix of determination and resilience. She struggled initially, scoring 90 in each of the first two series. However, she bounced back with stronger performances, scoring 95 and 92 in the third and fourth series, respectively, which kept her hopes alive.
Continuing her steady improvement, Rubina registered another 95 in the penultimate series. A final series score of 94 was enough to propel her into the top eight, ensuring her place in the final and finishing the qualification round in sixth position.
India has had a successful campaign in the ongoing Paralympics, securing four medals so far. Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal won gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. Manish Narwal added to the tally with a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1, while Preethi Pal clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 100m T35 event.
The final of the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event promises to be an exciting contest, with Rubina Francis now carrying the hopes of the nation as she aims for a podium finish.
