Chennai Super Kings youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad became the youngest player to win Orange Cap in the history of Indian Premier League. However, the fight was tough and it was decided in the last over of CSK innings during the final match of IPL 2021.
Gaikwad scored 32 off 27 and passed KL Rahul in the race during the Powerplay. He finished the league with 635 runs to eventually win the Cap. Interestingly his opening partner Faf du Plessis was the closest competitor who remained till the last over and fell short of just two runs to become the highest run-scorer of this season. Faf scored 59-ball 85 in IPL 2021 and guided the CSK innings to a massive score of 192.
At present Kolkata Knight Riders are chasing the mammoth target. Their two openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer are batting with absolute brilliance.
Ruturaj said "I didn't know Faf was close to me among runs but I wanted him to hit a six in the final ball".
