India has announced its squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with S Sajana and S Asha earning maiden call-ups, while Jemimah Rodrigues misses out due to a back niggle. Additionally, there are comebacks for batting allrounder D Hemalatha and left-arm spinning allrounder Radha Yadav.
Rodrigues, who is currently being treated for a back niggle at the NCA in Bengaluru, has been rested as a precautionary measure ahead of the T20 World Cup. Hemalatha, last seen in a T20I in September 2022, and Radha, making a return since last year’s T20 World Cup, are back in the squad.
The squad composition aligns with captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s commitment to giving opportunities to top performers with an eye on the T20 World Cup. Sajana impressed with her big-hitting ability in the Women’s IPL, while Asha was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
The tour to Bangladesh, starting on April 28, will likely be played on slow turners, prompting a spin-heavy squad. Deepti Sharma will lead the spin attack, supported by Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, Asha, and Radha. Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu are the frontline pacers, with Pooja Vastrakar and Amanjot Kaur as seam-bowling allrounders. Richa Ghosh is expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper, with Yastika Bhatia as a backup.
India’s T20I Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (capt), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Verma, D Hemalatha, Sajana Sajeevan, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Amanjot Kaur, Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, S Asha, Renuka Singh Thakur, Titas Sadhu.
