The excitement for T20 cricket is back in India. The second edition of the Women’s Premier League is back in India. On February 23, defending champion Mumbai Indians met Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in the inaugural match. That was a thrilling one. After witnessing Sajeevan Sajana’s heroics, Yastika Bhatia compared him with Kieron Pollard.
Sajeevan Sanjana’s Heroics and Yastika’s Praise:
In a nail-biting moment, with Mumbai Indians needing five runs on the last ball to reach the challenging 172-run target, the 29-year-old right-hander, Sajana, entered the scene. The tension soared as she faced the crucial delivery and, in a stunning move, smacked a six. The ball, full and aimed at the middle and leg, soared over long-on, triggering wild celebrations among the Mumbai Indians. Sajana’s last-ball heroics turned the game on its head, creating an unforgettable moment of triumph, and etching her name in the hearts of fans and teammates alike.
Yastika Bhatia praised her. She said, “ If you have watched Harry di (Harmanpreet Kaur) speak in interviews before, she mentioned that Sajana is a player to watch out for in this WPL. MI have faith in her and she is like Kieron Pollard of the women’s team. She has got that role, and she did really well, credit goes to her.”
Wish to have a Long Career in MI:
Yastika’s stellar performance was a key factor in Mumbai’s triumph against Delhi at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The 23-year-old opener, undeterred by losing her partner Hayley Matthews early, played a pivotal role. She set the tone with a brilliant 57 off 45, capitalizing on the powerplay. Yastika’s confidence remained unshaken, and she continued to navigate the innings expertly. Her resilience and ability to adapt were crucial in steering Mumbai to victory, showcasing not just skill but also a determined spirit that proved instrumental in their success on the Chinnaswamy turf.
Bhatia said, “ I was just playing according to the merit of the ball. I knew that if I did that right, I focused on the process, that thing would be taken care of. I want to win as many games as possible for MI.”
On February 25, Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians will lock horns against Gujarat Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Mumbai Indians already registered their first win in the tournament. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants will play their first match against MI.
