The exciting side of the T20 World Cup is going on. In the last match, Pakistan and the USA locked horns. The match was exciting as the USA delivered some exceptional performances. But Pakistan struggled throughout the game. The bowlers delivered poor performances that costed the games. They conceded runs in crucial times. Haris Rauf’s spell was a disaster. After that defeat against the USA, former Pakistani player Salman Butt lashed out at Rauf for their poor performance.
Haris Rauf’s Poor Display and Butt’s Reaction:
In the 11th match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan struggled throughout the game because of their poor performances. While batting first, Pakistan struggled. They struggled throughout the first innings as their wickets were getting down consecutively. At that match, skipper Babar Azam and Shadab Khan played responsible innings. They ended their first innings on 159 runs.
Pakistan’s bowling was even more poor. The bowlers struggled throughout the second innings. Among all the bowling failures, Haris Rauf’s poor performance caught the attention. Rauf had the crucial task of bowling the final over with USA needing 15 runs to win. He faced a challenge when Aaron Jones hit a six on the third ball. With 5 runs required off the last ball, Rauf aimed for a yorker with the mid-off fielder up. However, it turned into a low full toss, allowing Nitish Kumar to hit it over the mid-off for a boundary. This tied the match at 159, leading to a Super Over.
After watching the poor display by Haris Rauf, former Pakistani player Salman Butt lashed out at him. He said, “It is not a surprise that he conceded so many runs because he is that kid who doesn’t look at his field at all. Mid-off is inside the circle, and yet he bowls full and gets hit for a boundary on the last ball. You can see the captain also screamed at him. When you have mid-off up, then you don’t bowl full balls. This is a basic of cricket.”
On Rauf’s Expensive Spell:
Rauf conceded 37 runs in his four overs, making him the most costly among Pakistan’s bowlers. He failed to adhere to the field settings, especially against Andreas Gous in the middle overs. Butt criticized Rauf’s professionalism, describing him as unprofessional due to his performance and approach.
Butt said, “He (Haris Rauf) has some weird style when he bowls a ball and just sits on his knees with his hand on his head. It is as if he incurred a loss in shares or someone robbed him. I don’t know what he tries to portray but that is so unprofessional. You never learn anything. They lacked common sense and game awareness.”
