Sanath Jayasuriya has officially been appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team on a permanent basis. This decision follows his successful interim tenure during the team’s recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand. The announcement was made by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) via a post on social media.
Appointment Details
Effective from October 1, 2024, Jayasuriya’s contract will run until March 31, 2026. The Executive Committee of SLC made this decision after evaluating the team’s performance under his guidance during the interim period. Their post on X stated, “Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of the national team.”

Jayasuriya initially joined the team as a cricket consultant in December 2023, focusing on enhancing the capabilities of the High Performance Centre. His role evolved as he traveled with the squad to this year’s T20 World Cup and subsequently took over as interim head coach.
