Indian batter Sanju Samson has addressed concerns about his limited opportunities with the national team, stating that he “believes in a higher purpose.” Despite being part of India’s ICC T20 World Cup-winning squad in the West Indies and the USA, Samson has primarily served as a backup wicketkeeper-batter in both white-ball formats and did not feature in a single match during the tournament.
Sanju Samson’s displeasure over lack of opportunities
Speaking at a press event for the Kerala Cricket League on Friday, Samson addressed this issue, saying he remains focused on playing whenever selected. He expressed contentment with the team’s success, regardless of his own playing time, and emphasized his belief in a higher purpose. Samson said “I will just go and play whenever selected. At the end of the day, our team is doing well. I believe in a higher purpose and try to stay positive under controllable circumstances, putting in my best effort,” he stated.
But not only sanju has shown his displeasure over the lack of opportunities he received but even his fanbase has shown their frustration on the biases in Indian cricket. Over the years, Sanju Samson has built a dedicated and vocal fanbase through his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His fans have frequently expressed discontent over what they see as limited opportunities for him on the national team, especially in comparison to established players like Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.
