Sarandeep Singh Takes Charge as Head Coach of Delhi’s Senior Cricket Team

Sarandeep Singh, a former India off-spinner and previous member of the national selection committee, has been appointed as the head coach of Delhi’s senior cricket team for the upcoming domestic season. His extensive experience as both a player and selector is expected to guide the team through the challenges of the season ahead. Singh’s role in shaping young talent and his deep understanding of the game will be crucial as Delhi prepares to compete in key domestic tournaments. The new appointment marks a significant step for the team’s progress.

Sarandeep Singh Appointed as the Head Coach of Delhi:

Sarandeep Singh’s appointment as head coach of Delhi’s senior team was made by the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the state unit. He will be supported by bowling coach V Aravind and batting coach Bantu Singh, both of whom will continue in their roles from the previous season.

In a newly established role by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), the senior men’s team will have two mentors: Atul Wassan will guide the team for white-ball cricket, while Robin Singh Junior will focus on red-ball formats. Reema Malhotra has been named as the mentor for the women’s team.

Last season’s coach, Devang Gandhi, who left a positive impact on both the senior and junior players, will not be returning this year due to personal reasons and chose not to reapply for the position. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of former Indian cricketers Surinder Khanna, Nikhil Chopra, and Anjali Malhotra, had to decide between two contenders for the head coach role—Sarandeep Singh and former Delhi coach KP Bhaskar. Ultimately, Sarandeep was selected for the role this season.

A senior DDCA official said, ” The apex council has approved Sarandeep’s name for the head coach’s post. His name was also there last year when Devang became coach. Bhaskar was the other candidate but he will be fitted in as one of three selectors.”

Sarandeep Singh previously served as a national selector from North Zone under MSK Prasad. Though his experience as a senior-level coach is less documented, he has reportedly managed various institutional teams. In another development, former India batter and Punjab’s only Ranji Trophy-winning captain, Gursharan Singh, has been recommended for the role of chairman of the selection committee.
