Saurabh Ganguly’s Statement on R.G. Kar Medical College Rape-Murder Case

After Ganguly’s previous comments about it being a “one-off incident” infuriated social media users, the former India captain and BCCI president further clarified it.

Ganguly’s controversial statement and its clarification

“I said that last Sunday; I’m not sure how it was taken or understood. As I mentioned before, it’s a horrible thing. Police and CBI are currently looking into the situation. What has transpired is incredibly dishonorable. When the CBI, who is looking into this, finds the guilty party, I hope they will punish them severely.

The penalty needs to be so severe that no one would ever dare perpetrate the same offense in the future. That is a crucial point. According to PTI, Sourav Ganguly stated the punishment must be harsh.

R.G. Kar Medical College rape-murder case

The horrific rape and killing of a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has shocked India. On August 9, the lady postgraduate trainee doctor’s body was discovered within the hospital’s seminar hall. The following day, a community volunteer was taken into custody for his suspected role in the crime.

On Sunday, junior physicians at state-run hospitals in West Bengal maintained their cease-work in protest, causing disruptions to healthcare services for the tenth day in a row. They demanded justice. The junior physicians have been requesting that the victim’s post-mortem examination report be made public and that the perpetrators be punished as soon as possible.

On August 13, the Calcutta High Court directed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which began its investigation on August 14, take over the case from the Kolkata Police.

The unrest severely hindered the provision of non-essential healthcare services at the state-run SSKM Hospital, Sambhunath Pandit Hospital, and Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, among other facilities. Scenes similar to these were seen at state-run private hospitals. Regular OPD services are still closed, according to Manipal Hospitals.
