Sehwag Heaps Praise on Suryakumar For Scoring 50 Against Australia During First ODI

The much awaited India vs Australia 3-match ODI series began yesterday. With India leading the chart with 1-0, fans are excited to witness the remaining two matches of the ongoing series and see whether who among the two teams will emerge victorious. Yesterday’s match was rather a powerful display of dominance by Indian batters and bowlers, especially Mohammad Shami.

Four of the Indian batsmen namely Shubhman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul scored half centuries leading India on the path of victory by successfully chasing the given target of 276 runs by Australia. Their batting spree continued till it chased 281 runs and established their first win against Australia in the ongoing series.

The one fifty that caught everyone’s eye was that of Suryakumar Yadav. Having failed to score a single half century since February 2022,he is finally back with a bang. With registering a fifty mark off 49 balls, Suryakumar proved that he still has the potential to leave an indelible mark in the minds of opponent bowlers.

3 consecutive ducks endured by Surya earlier this year

Earlier this year, Suryakumar was dismissed for three consecutive ducks in the match against Australia. Due to this reason, he was not included in the first playing XI. Reports claimed that after the match in Mohali, Ravichandran Ashwin and Suryakumar Yadav returned to the ground trying to improve their batting skills. During the post match presence, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was questioned about this practice pattern and whether it helps the player.

The former opener came with a witty and generous reply and said “I didn’t need to. When you go out there, you put your 100 percent effort. Sometimes you get out and it’s fine. But for me, that was it. I wouldn’t practise until the next day. I don’t know the reasons why he was knocking after the game, you had the chance, you made a mistake and got out. Focus on the mistake, the mindset is more important. The skills won’t go anywhere, you don’t need practice.”

Sehwag also applauded Surya for scoring a half century against Australia. He took to his official X handle, formerly known as Twitter, saying “Happy for @surya_14kumar. He is surely an ex-factor. Not many players have the ability to play in the gear that he can and surely has the game to create fear in the minds of opposition. Great that we have persisted with him and he will be an asset. Congratulations Bharat.”

India as no. 1 across all formats

India achieved a historic high in ICC rankings and topped the charts holding the record for being No. 1 te across all formats. India displaced arch-rivals Pakistan to secure the top spot.
