Shaheen Afridi’s Heartfelt ‘Family’ Post Aims to Mend Cracks in Pakistani Cricket Team Unity

Recently, there seemed to be a split in the very much recognized unity among Pakistani cricket team players. Last week, several reports claimed that Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Afridi got muddled in a heated argument over the team’s performance.

The news came up when Pakistan lost its last Super 4 fixture of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh and lost their chance to secure their position in the finals. Reportedly, post-match, when the team was in the dressing room, Babar Azam was exasperated over the team’s poor performance and that they were at odds throughout the whole match.

What led to the fiery argument?

Not liking Babar’s way of expressing frustration, Shaheen Afridi approached him to look at the positive side of the team’s performance. However, Babar asserted that he was already aware of each player’s performance, which led both of them into a rift.

It had been reported that, after this incident, Babar maintained a noticeable distance from other teammates, which was clearly visible during their stay at the hotel and when the team departed for Pakistan.

Shaheen’s “family” post on X

The good thing is that after their almost-invincible argument, Shaheen took to his X account, where he posted a picture of Babar Azam quoting “family” with a heart emoji. Amidst the rumour that they have turned to different pages, Shaheen Afridi’s tweet was initiated purposefully to end the largely discussed speculation.

Also, it has been confirmed by the selection committee that Pakistan’s squad for the World Cup has been finalised in discussion with Babar Azam and that the announcement will be made soon.
Pakistan is all set to play a total of 11 matches in the World Cup, premiering on October 5. The Pakistani cricket team will be seen flying to India on September 25 for their much-anticipated clashes with other teams, especially long-time opponents, Team India.
