Shane Deitz, the Newly Appointed Head Coach of West Indies Women’s Cricket Team Advises The Team to Play With Freedom

The former South Australian wicket-keeper and batter has been newly appointed as the Head Coach of the West Indies Women’s Cricket team. The 48-year old former cricketer has prior experiences of being the coach to Bangladesh and Netherlands women’s cricket teams. He had been training both these teams since last month and now he has assumed the importance of being the head coach to the women of West Indies.

Team West Indies is all set to face the Australian women on their home turf for the upcoming series. Australia’s stumbling on the ashes and its recent trip in the white ball series proved insignificant for the Australian team but they will enter the contest strong enough due to their home ground conditions.

“Enjoy the challenge”, says Shane Deitz

This tour of Australia is West Indies first bilateral game since 2014.Despite having faced some difficulties, the team made some progress in the T20 format. Ahead of the WI-AUS series that is set to unfold in Sydney, Shane Deitz gave cheery and generous advice to the West Indies women saying “Got out there and enjoy it. Enjoy the challenge and play with freedom, we’ve got nothing to lose. Australia is the world’s best team for a long time now. We’ve got to find an identity for how we want to play. Using that natural ability and talent and letting that flow is the way I am looking to do it. Play with a smile on your face, have fun.”

Suiting to the captain’s philosophy

The advice seems to echo with Hayley Mathews who will be leading the team of West Indies. Mathews was also seen joining the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming WBBL. Mathew made her ODI debut as a 16-year old on the 2014 tour and was elevated to captaincy last year, replacing Stafanie Taylor.
