After wrapping up the T20 World Cup, the attention is now shifting towards the upcoming Champions Trophy. The prestigious ICC tournament is coming back after 2017. Schedule in 2025, Pakistan is all set to arrange this after long. However, India’s participation in this event is still not confirmed. The political tension between these two neighboring countries is one of the main reasons for it. But former Pakistani player Shoaib Malik urged Team India to visit the country for the event.
Shoaib Malik’s Urge to Team India:
The Champions Trophy is all set to take place in February 2025. After a long, Pakistan is hosting ICC events. But India’s Participation is still uncertain. Former Pakistan player Shoaib Malik urged the Indian Cricket Team to visit Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy next February.
The former Pakistan captain emphasized that political issues shouldn’t affect sports. He highlighted the hospitality of Pakistani people and encouraged India to come and compete in the global tournament despite tensions between the two nations.
He said, “Whatever reservations there are between the countries, that’s a separate issue and should be solved separately. Politics shouldn’t come into sports. The Pakistan team went to India last year, and now it’s a good opportunity for the Indian team too.”
Later he added, “ I think there are many players in the Indian team who haven’t played in Pakistan, so it would be great for them. Hum bahut acche log hai (we are good people). We’re very hospitable people, so I’m sure the Indian team should definitely come,”
PCB Left India’s Partcipation Issue Over ICC:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shifted the responsibility for the 2025 Champions Trophy to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). Recent reports reveal that the ICC’s annual conference in Sri Lanka did not address the schedule or format of the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the event next year, but India might not send its team due to tense political relations. Given this situation and the BCCI’s hesitation to travel, the PCB has left it to the ICC to finalize the tournament’s schedule and persuade India to participate in Pakistan.
