The 3-match ODI series concluded the previous day with Team India emerging as the winners of the series defeating Australia by 2-1. India’s young sensational batter Shubman Gill won the Player of the Series award despite not playing the final and last match of the series. The young batter has been already leading the ODI run scorer alongside maintaining his spot as the leading run scorer in the 2023 Asia Cup. Shubman scored a total of five centuries this year.

Shubman Gill has undoubtedly remained consistent throughout these months and his job as an opener for the Indian Cricket team will prove to be a big boost for Team India. He is the only batsman to score a double century in ODI Cricket at such a young age.

Equalling Sachin’s record of ‘Player of the series’ award

After winning the Player of the Series award in the just concluded ODI series, Gill equalled India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar by winning four Player of the Series awards in ODI cricket before the age of 25. The young batter knocked a total of 178 runs, while scoring an unbeaten 104 in the second game. By helping India secure a win against the Men in Yellow, Gill largely contributed to India’s 399/5. With claiming four such awards, he has left behind some of the great batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Who are the other cricketers whose records have been smashed by Gill?

Gill not only broke batting typhoon Sachin Tendulkar’s record to achieve this feat, he also equalled the records made by some of the finest Indian batsmen namely Ravi Shastri and Kapil Dev who won similar number of awards before turning 25. He went ahead of Yuvraj Singh and shattered the latter’s record who bagged three such titles before the age of 25.
