Simarjeet Singh: From Hockey to Cricket Stardom
Simarjeet Singh, known for his swift bowling and cool demeanour, has become a significant figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Once a hockey hopeful, Singh’s journey to cricket fame began when he opted to follow his passion for cricket over his father’s wishes.
Starting as a wicketkeeper and later experimenting as a spinner, Singh ultimately found his calling as a fast bowler under the guidance of former cricketer Madan Lal.
Joining the Mumbai Indians in 2021 as a replacement for an injured Arjun Tendulkar was a turning point in his career.
He received invaluable guidance from Jasprit Bumrah and Zaheer Khan, which shaped his growth as a bowler.
However, it was his move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2022 that solidified his presence in the IPL, where he delivered impressive performances despite early injuries.
Learning from the Best: Life at CSK
Under the mentorship of legends like MS Dhoni and DJ Bravo, Simarjeet’s skill set evolved dramatically.
He managed to bowl at an increased speed of 150kph during the 2024 IPL season and displayed a lethal combination of outswingers, yorkers, and slower deliveries.
While injuries initially slowed his progress, Simarjeet credits the CSK management and support staff for their continuous encouragement and support, helping him improve both physically and mentally.
